This is a fully reconditioned rear axle differential for the later Silver Cloud I and Bentley S1 models that have 17 spline half shafts. It has a gear ratio of 13/40 (3.08:1). The Series 1 models were fitted with rear axles and differentials of different types throughout their production years. It has a gear ratio of 13/40 (3.08:1). The Series 1 models were fitted with rear axles and differentials of different types throughout their production years. All these types can normally be supplied together with the appropriate strengthening upgrades designed to ensure trouble free and enjoyable motoring. Very early axles were produced with main axle cases having a reduced number of through bolts. All our exchange axles are supplied with strengthened main cases and an increased number of fasteners but by arrangement we can arrange rebuilding into early main cases. The variety of different rear axle variations fitted to these models requires us to ascertain certain physical characteristics of the axle from the owners, before orders are placed. We supply one ratio of 13/40 (3.08:1) and the differential makes a welcome and useful upgrade to the earlier standard 12/41 (3.4:1) unit. This special ratio is more robust and less troublesome than the original very high ratio S1 Bentley Continental version but nevertheless provides a nice relaxing cruising speed without being too high geared. Many S1 Bentley Continental owners have experienced these advantages as have many happy owners of the Standard cars. The axle is fitted with a heavy duty bearing carrier designed for extra rigidity and strength. It comes complete with new crown wheel and pinion gear set, a modern front oil seal modification, all new bearings correctly sized, correct side leather seals, spacers, thrust washers and main bearing Belleville disc springs. It is supplied with a two page rebuild sheet that records every detail of the rebuild including the thickness of every spacer. We were extremely privileged to be offered the chance to take on Norman Geeson's axle building business when he retired. More details can be found here. We would prefer that you ship us your old axle and half shafts. We can then assess the condition and advise accordingly. Before supplying we request the chassis number for the vehicle the parts are being supplied for. We also ask for a description of fault with the vehicle. It comes with a 2 year (unlimited mileage) guarantee - unless your car has been modified or altered in any way (if this is the case please contact us prior to ordering). PLEASE NOTE: This axle will only be guaranteed if the rear wheel bearings are replaced at the time of fitting. New bearings or exchange half shafts (containing new bearings) are available.
