Seals

Originally all Series 2 models were fitted with a steering rack with rectangular mounting brackets and a circlip in the top of the pinion housing.

From 1983 the racks still had rectangular feet but the top of the pinion housing was peened over. If you are ordering a seal kit please check which type of pinion housing you have as the seal kits differ - a diagram is shown in the listings for RACKKIT & RACKKIT-3.
From 1989 a rack was fitted with oval mounting feet (and a peened over pinion). This rack was subsequently supplied for earlier models albeit with a modified lower steering column and an extra set of brackets to mount the rack to the subframe.
