This is a fully reconditioned rear axle differential for the Silver Cloud II & III and Bentley S2 & S3 models. It has a gear ratio of 13/38 (2.92:1). The typical axle specification for one of our reconditioned axles is as follows: New crown wheel and pinion 13/38 (2.92:1), this ratio is the one normally used This is a fully reconditioned rear axle differential for the Silver Cloud II & III and Bentley S2 & S3 models. It has a gear ratio of 13/38 (2.92:1). The typical axle specification for one of our reconditioned axles is as follows: New crown wheel and pinion 13/38 (2.92:1), this ratio is the one normally used on the Bentley Continental S2 until August 1960, and is approx 5%+ higher geared than later cars, or the standard production cars, providing a more relaxed cruising speed. New pinion main bearings set to the upper tolerance of pre-load. Pinion nose bearing supplied and fitted in over-sized outer diameter when required. New main carrier bearings supplied and fitted in standard, over-sized outer tracks or under-sized inner tracks to keep clearances within factory tolerances as required. Overhaul and resetting of differential pinions and bevels using new thrust washers to reset centre gears to factory standards. New, resized pinion bearing housing providing more bearing support and freedom from gear noise. All new lock washers, woodruff drive keys in over-size if required, alloy sealing washers, and new leather side seals fitted throughout. Front seal housing and flange modified to accept a modern type oil seal and the finished axle oil tested by standing on the drive flange for 24 hours whilst full of oil. Front drive flange face and recess machined square, and seal face machined to accept modern oil seal. Three new Belleville main bearing disc springs fitted. Main casing through bolts nickel plated and new nuts and washers fitted. All parts thoroughly deep cleaned and glass blasted with water before inspection, individual parts nickel plated for storage protection as required. Finished axle painted in one coat black paint. Pinion penetration and backlash settings restored to original settings. All axles are supplied with detailed rebuild sheet recording all setting and spacer features. We were extremely privileged to be offered the chance to take on Norman Geeson's axle building business when he retired. More details can be found here. Before supplying we request the chassis number for the vehicle the parts are being supplied for. We also ask for a description of fault with the vehicle. It comes with a 2 year (unlimited mileage) guarantee - unless your car has been modified or altered in any way (if this is the case please contact us prior to ordering). PLEASE NOTE: This axle will only be guaranteed if the rear wheel bearings are replaced at the time of fitting. New bearings or exchange half shafts (containing new bearings) are available.

Our database knows the weight of every part listed on our website. In the majority of cases this allows automatic shipping options for each order to be chosen at the checkout. Unfortunately, penalties will be imposed by all shipping companies if a parcel is particularly large in size compared to its weight, this is commonly known as “voluming out”. This means that sometimes we are unable to accurately quote shipping for orders until we have packed the parcel and confirmed the shipping cost.

 

Please be aware that import duties and taxes may differ depending on which state the parts are being delivered to. All duties and taxes are set by the Customs Authority of the destination country & state and, as such, we have no control over them. Please note that it will be the responsibility of the customer to pay all duties and taxes.

 

Our two most commonly used methods of shipment are by the postal service and UPS. We do, however, hold accounts with most major international couriers so please let us know if you have a preferred courier or if you would like us to ship using an account you hold with a specific courier.
