Andy Thwaites and Jerzy Kadziela from the Flying Spares technical service department (TSD) attended the recent ‘Shadow Workshop’ organised and hosted by the East Midlands RREC section.

TSD Manager Andy Thwaites commented; “I was kindly invited along after attending the pre-war workshops that the East Midlands Section had organised earlier this year. “That workshop was great, I picked up a few new tips and tricks from that day and after seeing the itinerary for the ‘Shadow Workshop’ I knew I couldn’t miss out.

The workshop was driven by the common issues that group members wanted to look at. Sessions on brakes, electrics, and hydraulics were just a few of the areas that would be covered throughout the day. There was a lot to get through and the format and delivery of these topics, ably assisted by 2 stunning Shadows and a beautiful Bentley T1 nails its aim of getting everyone involved. There is so much knowledge amongst the enthusiast community, everyone was there to learn and to give by sharing their own experiences.

An interactive vehicle electrics setup drew plenty of attention. Multi-meters were on hand so that anyone could test the various circuits and hone their understanding of these systems, as well as their diagnostic skills. Two V8 engines were set up in rigs, giving owners the rare chance to see, walk around, and learn more about these legendary power units. There was also a session by Rod Golightly covering the theory and demonstrating the Shadow/T suspension setup in operation. All were supported by copies of technical literature and drawings from the Rolls Royce training school circa 1967.

The event itself attracted over 40 enthusiasts from across the UK, including Rolls-Royce & Bentley owners from Italy, Denmark, Germany, and France. Lydia from the RREC was also on hand with a fantastic range of branded goodies that the attendees could spoil themselves with.

Feedback from the event has been extremely positive and we look forward to the next workshop.
