Question: I bought myself a 1989 Bentley about a month ago. A couple of days ago, I had a problem starting there was a clicking noise (but not a starter solinoid clicking sound more like it was coming from behind the dashboard and the car eventually started, the next day was fine and started no problem but then today the clicking sound again, and no start, I've asked a couple of mechanic buddies who say it could be a relay, but which one, I've never seen a car with so many relays, any idea where to start looking please.

Answer: Hopefully it is a very common earthing problem found only on cars from around 1988 to 1993. There should be an earthing strap between the drivers side rear engine mount and the chassis leg (ie between the engine and the body). Take this off and clean the contact areas and see if this cures the problem. In the past we have added a second strap to the nearside engine mount and this has cured the problem if cleaning the drivers side strap has failed. The strap part number is UD70643. Hopefully this simple solution will cure the fault........
